Waterperry Gardens

Some of the most beautiful gardens in Oxfordshire (and that’s saying something!). It’s highly accessible and the friendly staff really help to make it a great day out. This has long been a personal favourite at ElWell and we’re delighted our reviewer thinks the same.

Review

By Joanna, Headington

“Waterperry is always a wonderful day out for my mum, made even better by how easy it is to get round and enjoy. You can hire wheelchairs and mobility scooters on site (just tell them the day before) – you can get round everywhere on these, except for right down by the river. There are a few disabled parking bays, so I’d recommend getting there early to make sure you get one.

The gardens are always beautiful (definitely worth the entrance fee) and make sure you visit Gordon in the Rural Museum – he has a fascinating display of old farming equipment (even shoes for sheep!) and Ronnie Barker’s old til from Open All Hours. You can spend time pottering around in the garden centre and gift shop (I buy all my cards there, they’re much more unique than the high street). The cafe has a delicious selection of cakes and pastries, as well as two to three hot meals, all at a reasonable price. We always get a table outside as find that to be easier with the wheelchair (and nice to sit in the fresh air) but the cafe does have ramps at both entrances so it is easily accessible. All in all, a fantastic day out.”
